Welcome to the National Independent Study Accreditation Council (NISAC) web site. Our goal is to provide national accreditation for home school and independent study programs. Our site includes operational guidelines, standards for accreditation, the application process and fees, and self study guidelines. A printed copy of NISAC’s Handbook, constitution and by-laws and an application is available upon request.
Terry Neven, Administrator
NISAC has accredited home school and independent study programs since 1996. We specialize in providing an accreditation process and self-governing standards to these organizations. If you have comments or questions about accreditation, our services, member schools or simply need more information, contact us.
Accreditation is valuable in providing an educational organization with certification by an auditing organization verifying that a school has voluntarily participated in a comprehensive self-study examination and successfully demonstrated that the institution meets necessary standards for directing students in accomplishing appropriate learning expectations. Institutions desire to participate in this ongoing self-improvement process to verify the quality their education.
Accreditation is an opportunity for a school to improve the quality of its program and service to its constituents. Undergoing the self-study process to ensure that its programs and policies follow educational standards of good practice is one of the greatest values of accreditation.
Accreditation is a non-governmental peer review process. It is a self-governing accountability to verify the integrity, purpose, and good faith of a school and its staff.
